Research, Education, and Support

The Division of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes offers a vibrant and growing research environment. Research projects include both laboratory and patient-oriented projects aimed at understanding and treating endocrine disease. Particular areas of interest include the development of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, the regulation of glucose metabolism, the regulation of bone growth and development, and the body's response to hypoglycemia. These research projects receive funding from the National Institutes of Health and from pharmaceutical sponsors.

Other research projects focus on how genes and the endocrine system interact to affect the use of growth hormones to improve height, as well as possible environmental and genetic causes of preterm birth.

Education and training for professionals

The Division of Endocrinology and Diabetes offers a three-year fellowship program that is approved by the American Medical Association Council of Medical Education. The program is designed to prepare qualified applicants to practice the clinical science of Pediatric Endocrinology and develop an area or areas of expertise in clinical or basic research.

Visit the Department of Pediatrics' website to learn more about research and education opportunities in the division.
