Sleep disorders program
Our sleep team can help your child get the sleep they need. Our Sleep Clinic, in partnership with the Department of Neurology, evaluates children for a wide variety of sleep disorders. If a formal sleep study is required, Vanderbilt oversees sleep labs in Nashville and Franklin to diagnose sleep-related issues. In addition, we work with parents to provide patient education and ongoing support.
Genetic and sweat testing for cystic fibrosis
Sweat testing is a safe, painless, and accurate test for diagnosing cystic fibrosis. Our laboratory performs sweat testing according to strict Cystic Fibrosis Foundation-approved guidelines. Testing for changes in the Cystic Fibrosis gene may also be ordered.
Respiratory diagnosis and therapy
Pulmonary function tests check how well a child's lungs are working and how well treatment and medicines are working. New drugs and treatment plans are available for children diagnosed with lung disorders. Our respiratory therapists are here to teach you how to properly use medicines and devices.
Case management for technology-dependent children
Children with lung disorders often need special drugs and devices to maintain and improve lung function. Our nurse specialists assess patient need and work with home nursing agencies, medical equipment providers, and insurance companies to plan health care for children at home. Services range from temporary oxygen therapy and intravenous antibiotic administration to assembling care teams and providing equipment for children requiring mechanical ventilation.
